Yaaaay! I am super-excited to introduce you to a new yarn store in South Florida! I discovered Sheep Thrills in Lauderhill, FL just a few months ago and it has quickly become my favorite yarn hangout!
Even though I don’t live closeby, I make the drive to Sheep Thrills because it is unique and lots of fun! Here are the top five reasons to love Sheep Thrills Yarn Store!
5. Inspiring Displays I immediately noticed that this yarn store was different. It is spacious, bright, and filled with inspiring displays. Every time I go in the store, there is something new to see!
The owner Patti embraces all crafts and has a really cool weaving loom set up for customers to see and experience. Nearby are woven samples. The other owner Jim told me that weaving takes the same creativity as knitting and crochet but uses different muscles so it’s a good craft to have on deck in case you need to give your muscles a rest.
Additionally, the decor and lighting in the store are bright – great for highlighting the beautiful colors of the yarns and project samples.
4. Friendly Atmosphere Patti says, “We have one rule. You have to be nice.” It’s great to walk into a place where you just feel welcome. There are three different areas for crafters to sit and work on their projects. In this creative space you get lots of encouragement. Whenever I go in there, people want to know what I am working on and they are very encouraging!
I just found this out, but Sheep Thrills has started a program called “Thrill Seekers”, which is their loyalty program. Membership is free, and at the entry level, members are entitled to have their yarn wound – not only yarn bought at Sheep Thrills, but yarn from ANYWHERE. I think that’s a really welcoming attitude!
2. Diverse Classes. Patti is an avid crocheter as well as a knitter and wanted to make sure that crochet was treated as importantly as knitting. To this end, she has hired three crochet teachers (including me!) in addition to her knitting and weaving faculty. The sky is the limit when it comes to creativity and classes. If you want it, she’ll try to make it happen for you. She even offers private classes.
1. The Yarn!!! I could hardly wait to tell you about this, but seriously, this store has one of the most varied assortments of yarn I’ve ever seen in a yarn store. From fiber content, to yarn weights, to prices – Patti has got you covered. And she stocks a LOT of yarn. If you have a big project to complete, you don’t have to worry about Sheep Thrills coming up short on you.
All in all, Sheep Thrills is a great place to be and you should check it out! They’re easily accessible from the Turnpike or the Sawgrass Expressway. Find them at 4725 North University Drive, Lauderhill, Florida 33351, (954) 468-5577, or (855) YARNS-4-U.
