If you love yarn, you should come to our shop in Broward County to visit. I know you’ll be inspired! We are much more than just knitting supplies. Did you know you don’t have to have any special skills to enjoy yarn crafting? Do you love yarn but find the crochet hook intimidating? Do you need to build up some confidence before making magic with the knitting needles? Do you love the look of weaving but don’t know your way around a loom yet?
Rest assured that you can definitely use yarn to craft things that are fun, useful, and decorative whether or not you already know how to knit, crochet, or weave. Today I’m sharing five fun, free ways to craft with yarn with no special skills needed!
Make a Beautiful, Fringed Wall Hanging.
I was inspired by images on Instagram from @houseofmarkla and @theleeleeshop to suggest this fun and sophisticated craft. Visit their sites at House of Mark and The Lee Lee Shop. They are easy to make and it’s fun to see where your creativity can take you with mixing yarns & sticks. Here is a great tutorial from Homey Oh My blog about how to make a fringed wall hanging.
Make a Yarn-Yo.
It’s super easy & super fun! You can rock a yarn-yo wherever you go!
Make a Tassel.
Tassels are hot right now! Whether used for yarn bombs or key fobs, they are easy to make. Link to the Sheep Thrills tutorial on how to make a tassel. They can also be used for wall hangings, garlands, as bookmarks, in planners, and more. Here’s a Design*Sponge tutorial about how to make & add tassels to a blanket.
These tutorials range from easiest to hardest. None are hard to do, but it’s great to have a range of options. Try How to Make Pom Poms (with yarn & scissors) by Rachel Choi on Crochet Spot, Different Ways to Make Pom Poms (part 1 – using a fork), and Different Ways to Make Pom Poms (part 2 – using cardboard) by Amy Molloy on Crochet Spot.
It’s easy to use your colorful yarn scraps to punch up plain brown gift wrap or to add softness to fancy gift wrap and ribbon. Add tassels, pom poms, or yarn-yos for a greater impact.
